Looksmaxxers are members of an online subculture focused on improving physical appearance,  through what they call “looksmaxxing.” This term refers to a wide spectrum of strategies aimed at maximizing one's attractiveness, particularly for the purpose of gaining romantic or sexual attention. Their practices range from conventional self-care (like skincare, fitness) to more extreme or pseudoscientific practices (such as mewing, bone smashing, jaw implants).

They use a highly specific lexicon including terms like Chad (idealized attractive man), subhuman (someone deemed below acceptable attractiveness), ascension (moving up the attractiveness hierarchy), and blackpill (fatalistic belief that looks determine life outcomes).
